Giuseppe Penone
September-december 2022
As part of the 16h Biennale d’art contemporain de Lyon, La Tourette welcomes Giuseppe Penone
The Dominican friars are pleased to welcome Giuseppe Penone for a new exhibition in their convent. Works have been specifically created by the artist to reveal a subtle dialogue between the concrete architecture and nature. Moreover, Giuseppe Penone wanted to seize the opportunity to exhibit in the convent to renew the look of his works.
Giuseppe Penone had the opportunity to stay at the convent on several occasions. Marked by the architecture of Le Corbusier, he was particularly attentive to the traces of the planks perceptible on the rough concrete walls. This led him to carry out a series of rubbings of the walls of La Tourette - in order to reveal the imprint of the plant in the architecture - in the continuity of his rubbings of tree bark.
In this way, he reveals correspondences between pilings and trunks, lumpy walls and bark, sowing of stones on the surface of walls and foliage; so many echoes that manifest a dialogue of architecture with the surrounding nature. Just as architects are attentive to the texture of walls, speaking of the "skin of concrete", the rubbings of Giuseppe Penone highlight an analogy between the skin of wood and that of concrete.
Address : Couvent de la Tourette 69210 Eveux
From 6.9.22 to 24.12.22
